Established in November 2023 by Dr Ahmos Youssef, River Heads Family Practice is a fully accredited General Practice located at the shopping centre of River Heads. We are a medical practice dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate healthcare to the River Heads community and beyond.

Our clinic features two consultation rooms, a well-equipped treatment room, and a dedicated staff area. Though modest in size and traditional in style, we provide a full spectrum of medical services—from routine procedures to complex skin surgeries and flap reconstructions.

What does it mean to be an accredited practice?

Being accredited means we are committed to:

meeting high standards for patient safety and quality of care
building patient trust to lead to better clinical outcomes
continuous quality improvement of the services we offer

It also means that we open our practice doors to allow constant assessments by a team of independent surveyors, to achieve the nationally recognised Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) standards for general practices.

Our Philosophy

At River Heads Family Practice, our philosophy and mission are centred around providing patient-centred care. We believe that healthcare should be personalised to meet the unique needs of each patient.

Our team of medical professionals takes time to get to know each patient and understand their individual health concerns. We work collaboratively with our patients to develop customised treatment plans that address their specific needs and preferences.

We believe that healthcare should be accessible to everyone, which is why we have changed from a mixed billing practice to bulk billing.

Training of Registrars and Junior Doctors

At River Heads Family Practice, we work together with Health Workforce Queensland to provide training for doctors who are on Pre-Fellowship Program (PFP).

Through the PFP, we help support International Medical Graduates (IMGs) and other non-vocationally recognised (non-VR) doctors to gain valuable general practice experience.

Dr Youssef is a certified supervisor and is responsible for the training of our doctors-in-training.

Translating and Interpreting Policy

It is important that you and your family are able to ask questions and get answers about your health in your own language. If English is not your first language, or you need assistance when speaking to your doctor, do not be afraid to ask for a translator.

As well as impartiality and greater accuracy, professional interpreter services are preferred over family or friends translating for a patient because they:

enhance our provision of quality patient care
ensure confidentiality
understand the importance of risk management
provide efficient, effective communication of information in sometimes time-critical situations
always adhere to professional conduct, not being emotionally involved with patients.

Our practice may engage the following services:

National Relay Service(NRS) for deaf and hearing-impaired patients.
Translation and Interpreter Service(TIS) for NESB patients.

All our GPs have access to the Translating and Interpreting Policy to obtain a translator over the phone.

If you let the reception team know ahead of time it can be organised for your GP appointment.

PRACTICE POLICY STATEMENT

Your personal information is important to us

The Practice recognises that your privacy is very important to you and that you have a right to control and access your personal information. We know that providing personal information is an act of trust and we take that seriously. Unless you give us explicit consent to act otherwise, the following policy will govern how the Practice handles your personal information and safeguards your privacy. The Practice is committed to protect your personal information and to you choice in who can use your personal information and how it can be used. We believe that our privacy policy not only complies with relevant laws but also represents best practice.

Collecting personal information about you

If you are a patient, we collect personal information about you in order to provide you with the full benefits of health care. We collect information from you directly and also from time to time thereafter if you provide us with additional information. Once you are a patient, we maintain a health care record for you and a medical history with the Practice.

Personal information is collected in a private setting and patient records are kept inaccessible to the public. Information is only released to third parties after a signed consent form. Even so disclosure is limited to that which is authorised or required.

Use of patient information for quality assurance and professional development is de-identified.

Using and disclosing your personal information

The Practice will not use or disclose any information about you without your consent unless: • Required by law • We believe it necessary to provide you with a service that you have requested • To implement our terms of use • To protect the rights or property of the Practice, any Practice user, or any member of the public. • To prevent a serious threat to a person’s health or safety. • In order to provide some services to patients, the Practice may be required to provide Patients contact details to third party suppliers of services. The Practice provides the opportunity for you to opt-out of such third party arrangements.

When a patient transfer the Practice to another, a signed release of patient information request is required. A Health summary, a copy of recent progress notes and copies of recent results or specialist letters are then sent to the requesting Practitioner. At times, the continuing doctor is phoned up as well.

Storage and security of your personal information

The Practice will continue to take all reasonable steps to keep secure any personal information which we hold about you, and to keep this information accurate and up to date. Your information is stored on secure servers or is protected in controlled facilities.

In addition, our employees and the contractors who provide services related to our information systems are obliged to respect the confidentiality of any personal information held by the Practice. However, the Practice will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access to your personal information.

You can access the information we keep about you

If you wish to know what information we hold about you, please contact River heads family practice at 0743361199 or fax us at 0743361190 . We will respond to your request within 30 days.

What to do if you have a problem or question

If the Practice becomes aware of any ongoing concerns or problems with our personal health records on our system, we will take these issues seriously and word to address these concerns. If you have any further queries relating to our privacy policy, or you have a problem or complaint, please contact our Practice Manager on 0743361199.

What do You do If you have any feedback or complaints ?

This Practice has a process whereby complaints can formally be made to any member of staff or the Doctor on duty either personally, in writing ,by phone ,by email or fax . The practice manger also can be contacted either in person ,by phone at 0743361199 ,by email at admin@rhpractice.com.au or by fax at 0743361190 .

You may also contact the OAIC. Generally, the OAIC will require you to give them time to respond before they will investigate. For further information visit www.oaic.gov.au or call the OAIC on 1300 363 992.

*$80.00 fee must be paid when booking the appointment.
If you cancel the appointment, we will give you a full refund.

Phone Consults

As per Medicare requirements, we are not able to book a phone consult for you
- if you are a new patient. You must be present for your first appointment.
- if you require S8 prescriptions.
We are also unable to book a phone consult if you have not presented to the Practice for 6 months or more.
All phone consults for scripts for our regular and returning patients, including private patients, are bulk-billed. Phone consult appointments for scripts are on Friday afternoon
Consultation fee of $80 is payable when booking a phone consult for private patients. It is refunded when you call the reception to cancel the appointment.

Cancellation Policy

River Heads Family Practice requires patients to cancel or rebook their appointments if they are not able to attend for any reason with no less than 2 hours’ notice. Each no show will incur a $50 Did Not Attend fee. If you fail to attend your appointments for more than 5 times without notice, you may be asked to find another medical provider.
